Hymen Repair

This is prepared specifically for girls given that I get a lot of questions from them about this surgical procedure. In this article, you will find answers to all your questions.

What is the hymen? What does it look like?

The name ‘hymen’ is of Latin origin, and it refers to a thin mucosal tissue. This tissue is similar to the inner surface of your cheek (inside your mouth) that you can touch with your tongue. So, it is essentially a thin membrane. Its appearance is 99% round. It is ring-shaped and has a small hole in the middle through which menstrual blood flows.

How many inches is the hymen inside?

The hymen is located 2-3 cm inside the female sex organ.

How is the hymen broken? Where does the blood come from?

This is one of the common questions we receive from our girls who need to have hymen repair surgery. If the ring structure of the hymen is disrupted, the hymen is damaged. It is actually a rupture of the mucosa. This is also known as 'hymen explosion' by people; however, there is actually no explosion.

Explosions are only possible for a completely closed item, but the hymen is not a closed membrane; it has an opening in the middle. This opening is mandatory for you to see your period. When the mucosa is torn, bleeding occurs in the mucosa and the blood flows out. In other words, any part of the hymen ring could tear. It is obviously normal to bleed when any of our tissues are damaged.

What is the color of blood from the hymen?

Bleeding from the hymen is usually light; it is more like a discharge. If you tighten your vaginal muscles during sexual intercourse or if you have frequent vaginal infections, the irritation-induced tearing and bleeding may increase. The color of the blood from the hymen is pinkish red. In the days after intercourse, the blood turns into a brown discharge.

How is the hymen pain? Does the hymen hurt?

Hymen repair is a commonly researched topic. However, these inquiries are sometimes made by girls who have never had intercourse before. Does a torn hymen hurt? How is the pain? These are common questions from girls who have not had intercourse or those who are very close to their wedding night.

The hymen is a thin membrane with a low pain sensation. However, you experience some pain when it tears, but this is not something to be scared about. It is usually accompanied by a burning sensation. There is also a feeling of pressure in the vagina and groin.

Symptoms of a Damaged/Torn Hymen

From a medical standpoint, the hymen is a structure that protects the vagina against microbes from the outside. However, from a sociocultural point of view, the hymen is a symbol of virginity, which shows that a young girl has not had intercourse before. Most societies in the world, like in every family in Turkey, place a premium on virginity, i.e., a woman has to bleed during her marriage consummation. Bleeding is seen as an indication of the young girl's first intercourse.

The following are signs of a damaged/torn hymen;

  • Spotting-like discharge
  • Pressure in the vagina and mild groin pain
  • Light pink drops of blood coming from the vagina after intercourse or after an accident
  • Blood stains on your partner's penis after intercourse.

How is the Hymen Restored?

Based on the desire of the patient and the choice of an ideal doctor, a permanent or temporary hymen repair procedure can be performed. You will (100%) bleed during your first post-surgery intercourse. The process is confidential, so privacy is guaranteed and no record is kept.

When Should a Damaged/Torn Hymen Be Restored?

The damaged hymen can be restored with two methods. You can choose the desired method based on the date of your wedding. If your wedding is about 1 week away, you should opt for the temporary method. On the other hand, if your wedding is one month or more away, the permanent procedure is more appropriate for you. In summary, if your wedding is not within 10 days, a permanent hymen repair can be done any time you want.

How Many Types of Hymen Repair are There?

There are two types of hymen repair, namely temporary and permanent hymen repair.

Temporary Hymen Repair

You can choose this method if your wedding is in one week or less. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia. You may experience mild pain during and after the procedure. This pain is not unbearable, on the contrary, most people say that there is no pain.

The process takes an average of 10 minutes. After the procedure, if your doctor deems it necessary, he/she will prescribe medication that you’re expected to take religiously. Usually, however, there is no need for medication. After the procedure, you are bound to (100%) bleed during your first post-surgery intercourse.

Permanent Hymen Repair

Don't be down-trodden because your hymen is broken; you are not the only one who wants to have a permanent hymen repair. There are many girls like you who reach out to us with the same problem. The permanent repair procedure is also called ‘lifetime repair’. If your marriage is one month (or more than one month) away or you have no marriage plans, you can choose this procedure. In other words, you can have it done when there is no one in your life yet because your restored hymen will remain intact for life until your first sexual intercourse.

Full recovery after the operation takes an average of three weeks. In this procedure, the hymen is reconstructed with flaps taken from the side walls of the vagina. Subject to necessity, a vaginal tightening procedure could also be performed with the repair to restore the vagina to its original shape. During the procedure, you will not experience any pain, but you may have very mild pain after the procedure.

The procedure takes 20-25 minutes on average. However, this post-operative pain is only mild. After the procedure, you should meticulously follow your doctor’s instructions on prescribed medications and precautions. What you need to pay attention to is given to you as a list of 6 items after the procedure. Permanent hymen repair is also called lifetime repair.

No one from the outside will notice that you had a permanent hymen repair done. You will most likely research the best doctor for permanent hymen repair. If your permanent hymen is transplanted by an experienced doctor, you will get 100% results, that is, you will bleed. You can be sure of 100% results when your procedure is performed by an experienced doctor. This means that you are bound to bleed during your first post-surgery intercourse.
